Sunflower and other British summer flower MeadowSweet posy

British Sunflowers

The star of the show this week is the striking sunflower. My favourite childhood flower, they can grow up to 3 metres tall - very exciting when you're little to have a giant sunflower towering above you! You may have a sunflower field near to you and now's the time to go and enjoy seeing them turning their heads to face the sun*.

As we have discovered recently, 60% of the world's sunflower oil production comes from Ukraine and Russia and the war continues to affect its availability and cost. Alternatives like palm oil are likely to be used as substitutes and it is worth checking any palm oil in products has the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certification to help assure no recent deforestation has taken place.
