British summer sunflowers table decorations in glass jars

British flowers for Marwell Wildlife's charity gala

We were proud to provide the British flower table centres for Marwell Wildlife's charity gala night this week. It was a joyful and successful evening and a real privilege to be part of.

Marwell is a wildlife conservation charity very much close to my heart. Having worked for the Zoological Society of London and seeing how encounters with animals inspire and bring people closer to nature, I was happy to help. The event was to raise money to create a number of therapy and themed gardens on the Marwell Zoo site to connect zoo visitors with plants and flowers.

Ever adaptable, the team managed to relocate the entire event at the last minute from the planned marquee to the air-conditioned gift shop to avoid the heatwave. A Herculean effort from everyone involved, and the evening went ahead without a hitch.

As always, the flowers we used were all British grown, predominantly from our cutting garden, plus sunflowers kindly donated from Lincolnshire and 'wild' cornflowers from Hampshire.

A huge thank you to the Marwell team for inviting us and for putting on such a memorable evening.

If you'd like to join the movement to support our British growers, you can order flowers for delivery, send a hand-tied posy of British flowers to a friend, or start a flowers subscription with MeadowSweet.
