Homegrown nerines
Share
Beautiful nerines are found in pinks, whites and crimsons and are sometimes called Guernsey lily, Jersey lily or spider lily. These bulbous plants are native to South Africa and they flower in the Autumn, which makes them a useful and stylish addition to this October posy.
These nerines are homegrown and finally we seem to have a reliable patch of them that are doing well and are avoiding being dug up by the pesky squirrels. They are naturally found in arid and rocky ground, so perhaps that's why they are happy in our nutrient-poor sandy seaside soil.
They are a perennial that doesn't take up much space in the garden bringing a vibrant splash of Autumn colour, and they symbolise freedom and good fortune, so what's not to like!
