Autumnal British-grown flowers

A network of fantastic British growers

We've got great news! We've teamed up with a brilliant two-generation flower farm in Cornwall to help us increase the variety of flowers we can offer throughout the year and meet demand. This farm grows in the field and under polytunnels, which is a great way to extend the seasons and maintain top quality flowers into the colder months.

As well as sourcing flowers from Cornwall, we also sometimes use flowers grown in Lincolnshire as well. The area around Spalding in Lincolnshire is known as 'Little Holland' because it is flat with great soil and is the historical centre of the British flower growing industry.

In the 1970s nearly all the flowers sold in the UK would have been locally grown but now it's less than 15% because of cheaper imports grown in The Netherlands and tropical countries like Kenya, Columbia, Ethiopia and Ecuador. At MeadowSweet we have chosen to use locally grown flowers throughout the year to ditch the 'flower miles' associated with flowers being flown 'cold-chain' thousands of miles around the globe.

This week we've included a lovely mixture of Autumn cheer including shiny red rosehips, elegant crimson river lily, statis, pinks, golden rod, and the stunning amarine.

With a chill in the air and the evenings drawing in, it can be sad to say farewell to summer, and now could be the perfect moment to send someone a bunch of British flowers to cheer them up! Order Now and send a MeadowSweet Posy to anywhere in the UK. With zero air-miles (and zero calories!), they are the perfect eco-friendly gift!
