Wimbledon flowers and green walls 2026

Wimbledon 2026: The Flowers Behind the Tennis - What a Florist Noticed at SW19

Everyone goes to Wimbledon for the tennis, and I did too, but I was also excited to go for the flowers! I was fortunate to be invited to Day Three of Wimbledon 2026 with my brother Jason, a keen tennis player and enthusiast, who knows exactly the right matches to go and watch.

It was lovely to spend the day together, we had tickets for No. 3 Court, and we also flitted about seeing a number of incredible singles and doubles matches with seeded players including the American Tommy Paul and the popular Brazilian, João Fonseca. We also loved watching Stefanos Tsitsipas warming up practising his returns on the tucked away practice courts, a few hours before his match on Centre Court with Novak Djokovic.

The flowers and planting at Wimbledon

Getting a closer look at the planting on the site, it’s amazing how luscious and cohesive they have made the grounds feel with the use of themed planting, an abundance of flowers and huge green walls minimising the visual impact of the grandstands. Even with 40,000 people, the planting softened the space and created a sense of natural calm.

The All England Club brings in an astonishing 27,000 plants for the Championships each year. This year there were thousands of hydrangeas, and petunias spilling out of hanging baskets, all predominantly with the theme of purple, greens and white, with a touch of pinks and blues for added interest.

The Wimbledon lesson: restraint is the whole trick

Wimbledon’s planting works for a similar reason a good posy works. It has a considered colour palette, an abundance of seasonal flowers, is designed with care, and the flowers are there to make everyone’s day that little bit more lovely.

What’s blooming in Britain in July

While the strawberries and cream are out at SW19, the July cutting garden is in full flow. In our New Forest plot we are picking alliums, phlox, eryngium, statice, achillea and agapanthus and we are using sunflowers from the larger growers. If you’d like a little of that Wimbledon-fortnight feeling at home, perhaps a posy subscription of British, seasonal, quietly beautiful flowers could be just the ticket. Choose deliveries from weekly, fortnightly or monthly, arriving hydrated in eco-gel so it’s fresh, not floppy, and ready arranged to display in the recycled-glass jar provided with your first order.

So, thank you Wimbledon, see you next time. I’ll be watching the later rounds on the telly and, for me, it’s game, set and match to the gardeners!
