Some of the ingredients in this year's Christmas wreath help to tell the story of good heathland management. To ensure the thousands of acres of beautiful local heather are well maintained, selected areas are burned on a rotational basis. The seeded heather used in the wreaths was collected in collaboration with the Heathland Manager from an area destined to be burned next year. The wreath also features dead heather twigs which naturally have a frosty, silvery colour, from the same area. The pine in the wreath was from storm damaged trees and from pine saplings which are also actively removed from heathland. Along with grazing, this helps to ensure the spaces remain open and allows the heather to thrive.
