British grown flowers are a sustainable, ecofriendly alternative to imported flowers and they have a significantly lower carbon footprint than imported flowers. A study from Lancaster University found British flowers have a 90% lower carbon footprint than imported flowers.

In the 1970s most of the flowers sold in the UK would have been British grown but, these days, only about 12% of flowers for sale in the UK are grown here. The majority of flowers that come into this country are grown in the Netherlands or cold-chain air-freighted in from vast farms in tropical countries such as Kenya and Columbia, reaching the UK via the flower auctions in The Netherlands.

We prefer to minimise the journey your flowers have been on to get to you. My mum and I began by growing in our gardens and in a small plot of land in the New Forest. These days, most of the flowers we use are grown in the South West and the lion's share are grown outdoors and in polytunnels using agro-ecological principles, and are sent to you directly from the flower farm.

In the winter months, we rely more on British farmers that grow under glass, predominantly in Lincolnshire. These businesses have incorporated technologies to make their growing as sustainable as possible, such as using waste biomass in boilers for heating, installing broad spectrum LED bulbs for lighting, planting wildflowers for birds and pollinators and digging reservoirs for rainwater harvesting.
